“I shouldn’t be up this late,” Jan thought to himself. His thoughts judged him for slacking as always, but shrugged them off. He can stop whenever he wants.
Jan is young and irresponsible, like most kids. He had been tinkering with his watch and setting an alarm for school, hours after his scheduled bedtime. He had just finished reading his favorite comic. He keeps losing control over his eyes, though only briefly, because he can’t be late to school again.

As the watch lets out a ‘beep beep beep’ in a perfect harmony, the front door let’s out three knocks as well. Jan had almost missed it while he drifted into his bed.
Might as well see who it is, Jan figured. The floor tries to drag him back to his cozy bed, but Jan barely arrives at the door with a chair and his troubled height. He steps up and looks through the peephole.
Something was off about what he saw. It was Spring and he saw fuzziness outside, like snow.
He moved the chair as it moaned and resisted. He peeked around the open crack of the door to see a man. A man with what seemed to be an old CRT Television for a head, wearing a black business suit. Its’ screen was dull and shifty as it stood there like a statue.
He observed the man, then a green light atop of the TV flickered and began to scan every crevice of Jan’s face.
[NAME: JAN STRATOVSKY]
[AGE: 13]
[DOB: 1 APRIL, 2013]
[STATUS: LEGAL IMMIGRANT]
The screen revealed a school photo of the boy, smiling. The picture’s stare froze the boy. A message flashed into the screen:
[HELLO, JAN STRATOVSKY. I HAVE COME TO SHOW YOU SOMETHING IMPORTANT.]
[YOU CAN STAY AND HEAR WHAT I HAVE TO STAY, OR LIVE YOU LIFE IGNORANT OR WHAT IS GOING HAPPEN TO YOUR TOWN.]
Before it could show what it wanted to show Jan, he closed the door and headed to the kitchen for a glass of water before bed. He had a good sleep.
